After their marriage, Johann Heinrich and Christine Niemeyer acquired part of the property from the Lührnhof farmer at the corner of the main street and built the foundation of what would later become the Posthotel

Turn of the Century – A Time of Inspiration and Growth: Shortly before the turn of the century, many artists were drawn to Müden – among them the well-known regional poet Hermann Löns.
This artistic influx boosted tourism in the region, and the Niemeyer family suddenly had plenty to do.
Renovations and extensions followed, including the construction of the first upper floor – a direct result of the prosperous times.

A Time of Loss and Resilience: After Hans-Heinrich Niemeyer (pictured) was killed in the war, his wife Sophie married his brother Gerhard, and together they continued running the hotel. In 1949, the house was occupied by American forces who operated the airlift between Faßberg and Berlin. During this time, Sophie and Gerhard were employed by the Americans.

A New Era Begins: After the departure of the American forces, further renovations and conversions were carried out. The former shop was transformed into a dining room, the guest lounge was renovated, and the large hall was redesigned in a contemporary style (photo). In 1971, Wolfgang and Marlies Niemeyer took over the hotel – marking the beginning of a new chapter in its history.

Growth and New Possibilities: The guesthouse Lührnhof was acquired and operated as an independent restaurant until 1996, later serving as an event venue until 2015. In the following years, three additional plots of the former estate were purchased. The garages in the side wing were converted into the hotel’s first wellness area, complete with sauna and whirlpool. The old barn from the Siemering farm, located across the street, was also purchased, demolished, and the site repurposed as a parking area.

New Leadership and Continued Growth: Alexander, the son, joined the management team. Shortly afterward, the hotel became a member of the Romantik Hotels & Restaurants AG cooperation. In 2005, the wellness area was expanded to over 220 m². As part of these measures, a combined heat and power plant as well as a pellet heating system with a local heating network for all buildings were installed. In addition, the Sophie Charlotte guesthouse was completely redesigned, and the Mia Elisabeth guesthouse was acquired and integrated into the hotel ensemble. In 2014, we proudly celebrated our 125th anniversary.
